How to be a Professional Gamer

It was back in 1999 when I first started playing video game like crazy on my Nintendo Cartridge. It then progressed into something much bigger than just simple platformer titles and RPG’s but rather more advanced quests/adventure type games. And even though those days in the early 2000’s were certainly not easy, I didn’t let that stop me from enjoying myself. That is until one fateful day when my friends started telling me they hadn’t been able to beat their latest release for years and wondered if anyone else had done it either (and thus potentially).

After having been through so too many frustrating encounters with others who just couldn’t keep up with this seemingly endless series of challenges (and as such, had little faith in themselves), I decided enough was enough and gave serious thought to what steps needed to be taken to become a better player in general. So with lots and lots of research and a lot of trial and error and some very bad luck, I developed an understanding of how to actually become a gamer and then put that knowledge into practice every single day. In fact, most nights after getting home from work I would spend two hours or more writing down strategies for different types of games and then go about tackling them for the next week straight. Over the years since then I have spent over 300 games and counting and I still don’t believe it has any end in sight! But there is hope and that is why we are here today!

1.Becoming Better As A Player

When you start out in gaming, especially casual gamers, you quickly realize that your time is limited. Your ability to do whatever tasks you wish within a few minutes is extremely limited and will continue to shrink your skill base over time. If you want to progress or move forward, at least for the immediate future, you need to understand which activities you can perform well and those that shouldn’t be your strength. One way to become a better player is to make sure you aren’t wasting time doing things you don’t enjoy. This may sound obvious and yet, there are plenty of times when you come across stuff you absolutely despise because your opponent is taking an extra time to move for each and every action that they do. They may also get stuck and die, so you need to remember where you are now and where you need to be going before attempting this specific task. Another thing to consider is whether or not you have other interests outside of gaming. Because you are limited in where you can physically go from stage to stage, many people choose to focus solely on building their skills in general in order to gain a competitive advantage over opponents. While that can help immensely in improving performance, another equally effective method is to focus on expanding on your repertoire. For example, I use music to add dimension to all of my characters and I am currently working on adding new songs to a variety of classic titles. Other options include crafting items, exploring dungeons and fighting hordes of monsters. Whatever you choose, try and find ways to adapt and change your habits to improve them. Doing so will definitely help you along the path towards being a better and more skilled gamer in general.

2.The Next Step Towards Becoming Successful

Once you have successfully built a solid foundation for yourself by developing your strengths and adapting to changes, you are ready to develop new capabilities that boost your overall gameplay. Here we take a look at several possible avenues that you can explore in order to reach success:

a) Go Pro

I have no doubt that this will be the top priority for most people once they try and see if becoming a professional gamer in a popular genre is realistic. However, it doesn’t mean that simply focusing on becoming a professional gamer is going to suffice and you should throw away everything else you have worked hard on. Instead, make sure that you remain focused on becoming a best seller at a relatively young age and take pride in your accomplishments. Remember that the only reason you ever set out to become a gamer is not to win millions or billions of dollars, but to experience life at its fullest.

Therefore, don’t waste time worrying that your online profile or a certain number of followers is what will determine your status as a gamer. Simply remember that everyone starts at zero and if anything else you can always learn from your mistakes, correct their weaknesses and push them forward to eventually prove that you deserve a spot on this list. Even though being the best selling person on a popular game like Fortnite isn’t exactly where you want to be placed in terms of popularity, at least it gives you hope.

3.Choose Between Casual Or Hardcore Style Of Gaming

If you are a casual player without much commitment or desire to devote effort into gaining greater mastery of a specific genre, chances were you will find yourself struggling within these categories:

Casual Gaming

Casual Gamers

Casual Gamer(s)

Casual gamers usually tend to be a bit more laid back on the whole situation because they are essentially sitting around and playing a round of Call of Duty at night. Although some players might feel the pressure and think that being casual isn’t really necessary because they can easily jump in and out of almost any title whenever they want, the reality is quite the opposite. Unlike casual gamers, hardcore gamers will probably devote their entire lives and literally every waking moment to perfecting their craft. Furthermore, those dedicated hardcore players will often have trouble adjusting to a level where normal gameplay will seem boring and completely uninteresting. What this means is that hardcore gamers must dedicate many hours per day to grinding and mastering content. Sometimes they will spend longer at the keyboard than ever in order to hone in on particular areas of game mechanics and occasionally they will spend a good portion of their day trying to figure out ways to defeat a particularly tricky boss. On the flip side, although some hardcore gaming is more difficult to comprehend and understand, even a basic level of expertise can grant hardcore gamers great rewards.

You can expect the same for someone approaching the latter type of gaming.

Hardcore Gaming

Hardcore Gamers

Hardcore gamers are full on perfectionists. These are players that will never hesitate to sacrifice anything for the sake of being the highest performing player on any given team. At times this will be due to the immense dedication they have to finishing projects in accordance with exact specifications and requirements while on the other hand other times, they may struggle to achieve these goals because they don’t have a large amount of available resources or simply don’t have the energy for continuous long periods of intense development. Regardless of the reasons behind their intense dedication, for hardcore gamers, staying true to their original design intent for an item, game or even team is imperative. Additionally, it is important to note that these players play competitively against other experts in the field. Thus, you will likely encounter situations where they lose but this would most likely happen due to poor planning on the part of the opposing team. This is why hardcore gamers are expected to play aggressively despite the odds or lack of support from fans who aren’t as experienced as they are. Overall, hardcore gamers are typically known for their drive to excel and prove themselves. Those who possess extreme passion and determination could earn a high position on this list if they consistently display a consistent dedication to excellence.

Casual Gaming VS Hardcore Gaming

As previously mentioned, this category consists of both casual gamers and hardcore gamers. Both genres share similar characteristics, particularly in terms of motivation. Their main difference however is in the form of game. Though both genres rely heavily on strategy, tactics and perseverance to compete effectively, it is essential to understand the difference between casual vs hardcore style of gaming before delving deep into specifics. As much as it seems convenient at times, casual gaming focuses on enjoyment over winning and usually comes with less complexity in comparison to hardcore gaming. Since this type of game is meant for fun and entertainment instead of pure competition, it generally takes much less time to create a decent strategy, making it easier to master in a shorter period. Also, casual gaming tends to involve fewer rules and objectives to accomplish. This is particularly so for third party social games which are usually far less complicated to learn and can provide excellent opportunities for exploration into multiple worlds and countless possibilities. Likewise, even though hardcore games have many levels and stages to complete, casual games tend to be linear in nature and can therefore produce a large volume of small victories for most players who fall under this genre. There are plenty of examples where hardcore gamers used to grind in various forms but nowadays have found that they can achieve higher levels simply by completing smaller tasks (and sometimes even solo!)

Mobile Apps & Desktop Optimized Browsers

Mobile apps were already popular among millennials (and younger generations in general) prior to smartphones and tablets but they have become slightly more mainstream over recent decades and are often used by the masses who don’t necessarily know or care about computers. Mobile applications have been instrumental in increasing the scope of gaming for users as well as providing players with a wide array of functionality that is simply unavailable in traditional console systems (even though technically they can run programs!). Naturally, this also makes the process of learning a computer programming language considerably simpler. As such, many modern developers leverage their love for mobile games by producing optimized versions of existing titles and combining.
